This three-day course is designed to equip participants with the skills needed to be full or part-time PIOs, including oral and written communications; understanding and working with the media; and basic tools and techniques to perform effectively as a PIO, both in the proactive/ advocacy times and crisis/ emergency response.

Target Audience |
Individuals who have public information responsibilities as their main job or as an auxiliary function at the Federal, State, or local levels of government. Selection for entry into this course will be based upon job title and responsibilities. |
Eligibility |
Due to high demand for this course and to ensure adequate and appropriate participation, we can only accept one individual per community. More than one per community will remain on a waitlist and if a seat becomes available, we will best determine selection into the course. Seating priority will be given to individuals from state and municipality level who serve in the PIO function. Please demonstrate your need for the course when you apply. Justifications will be carefully reviewed for selection. |
