Event Description

Massachusetts Emergency Management Director Orientation Program (MDOP)

The goal of this course is to acquaint the learner with the position of a municipal Emergency Management Director (EMD), including history and underlying principles of emergency management, key areas of emphasis, the EMD’s roles and responsibilities, and tips for getting started.

At the conclusion of this program, the learner should be able to:

  • Identify the principles and authorities that are the foundation of emergency management.
  • Describe the roles and responsibilities of a municipal Emergency Management Director (EMD).
  • Identify strategies for developing a preparedness program.
  • Indicate the significance of planning, training, and exercising in emergency management.
  • Describe the emergency manager’s role in relation to emergency response.
  • Identify key considerations in managing an emergency management program.

Eligibility ​Applicants must fully complete the justification field of the application describing their duties as a municipal Emergency Management Director or Deputy Director. . Those that do not meet the Target Audience maybe wait listed or declined.
